After exploding onto the radar of international tastemakers with their acclaimed 2017 debut EP 'Subtitles for X, Y, Z’ and stamping themselves as one of Australia’s most promising upcoming bands on the live circuit, Sydney-based indie rock quartet CREO aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.
Kicking off the year with a performance at Australia’s summer blockbuster Falls Festival, the band have only catapulted themselves to further heights in 2018, inking a management deal with Bear Parts Music ahead of the release of their sophomore EP, ‘In The Red’, which has already been snapped up by Kobalt for digital distribution.
The band’s fresh collection of urgent, guitar-fuelled indie rock hymns is slated to arrive later this year, hot on the heels of its globally-frothed predecessor.
Lauded by Rolling Stone Australia as “a battle scene primarily directed by the instrumentation, with the partnership of dream-pop escapism and equally optimistic vocal quips”, CREO’s 2017 'Subtitles for X, Y, Z’ EP was also embraced locally by key tastemakers triple j, FBi, 3RRR, RTR, 4ZZZ, not to mention international hypesters Indie Obsessive (USA), The Daily Listening (USA) and The Revue (CAN).
Its release saw the band traverse the countryside selling out headline shows and supporting the likes of Nothing But Thieves (UK), Minus the Bear (USA), British India, Last Dinosaurs, Tired Lion, Polish Club and Bad//Dreems.
Charismatic frontman Jorjee Haman’s poetic vocal melodies intertwine with Carlos Romanos’s delicate yet brazen guitars and a thumping rhythm section provided by Daniel Tsoltoudis (drums) and Alex Milano (bass) to power CREO’s singular sound.
And while they are, at their core, an ‘indie rock’ band, CREO’s musical depth, fire and subtle sonic intricacies are what set them apart from the standard indie fare.
Noted as having “the emotional power of dynamics that belies their years” (The Music, Sydney), “devious hooks, malicious guitar tones, and some of the most fearsome drums this side of indie music” (Casual Band Blogger), CREO’s meticulousness in the studio -- and brashness when not -- prove to be an unlikely match made in heaven, for a band who truly are a must-see.
Stay tuned for further announcements on the release of CREO’s 2018 EP, ‘In The Red’, coming soon!
